GSRI is actively involved in both the preparation and implementation of the country’s development planning for the 2014-2020 period, as it is responsible for Thematic Objective 1 «Strengthening research, technological development and innovation».

 Its role consists mainly in:

·        Drawing-up the country’s comprehensive strategic development plan for the 2014-2020 period, namely the Partnership Agreement (PA), i.e. the «new NSRF» for 2014-2020, in the field of Research, Technological Devenopment and Innovation (RTDI). More specifically, its tasks include:

  • Developing, in the context of the Partnership Agreement, the Research and Innovation Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3), which is an ex ante conditionality for receiving ERDF funding for investments in research, technological development and innovation during the 2014-2020 programming period. This strategy is defined simultaneously in both the national and regional levels, through interaction and synergies between the two levels, co-ordinated by the Special Service for Strategy, Planning and Evaluation (EYSSA), with the GSRT bearing scientific responsibility. A key tool for drawing-up the Strategy is the so-called Entrepreneurial Discovery, namely the identification of entrepreneurial opportunities by acknowledging the potential offered by research and innovation and turning this potential into a competitive advantage. The Smart Specialisation Strategy document was approved by the Council for the Smart Specialisation Strategy and the European Commission in August 2015.
  • Developing a Multiannual Financial Plan for Research Infrastructures, which will highlight the country’s priorities for long-term investments in large-scale research infrastructures, in alignment with RIS priorities and taking into account the regional impact of these investments.
  • Updating and adapting the above through active and open monitoring and evaluation procedures throughout the 2014-2020 programming period.

·       Drawing up the Operational Plan(s) in the field of Research, Technological Development and Innovation, intended to be the main financing instrument for RTDI activities during the 2014-2020 period.

·    Implementing and assessing Research, Technological Development and Innovation activities in the context of the various 2014-2020 operational programmes.

In this website, and in the spirit of transparency and open dialogue, GSRT describes the key steps taken up to the present and the most important results produced (working documents, official documents, events, presentations, etc.) with a view to informing the research and business community, regional authorities, ministries and the Greek citizens in the most adequate way, as well as to exchanging views.

More specifically, in this page you will find:

  • the adopted RTDI Strategy for Smart Specialisation (RIS3) document as well as its annexes.
  • the Multiannual Financial Plan for Research Infrastructures and key milestones in the preparation of the Plan
  • information on the Entrepreneurial Discovery Process (EDP), as well as the key milestones in the development of RIS3 through consultation with the innovation platforms, regional authorities and the ministries concerned.
